Bathed In Lightning chronicles the life of the legendary guitarist John McLaughlin, from the early years of his career in the late 1950s to his success with the Mahavishnu Orchestra and beyond.

Born and raised in Yorkshire, McLaughlin moved to London in the 1960s, where he played with Georgie Fame And The Blue Flames, The Graham Bond Organisation and Brian Auger while supporting himself through work as a session musician.

On the 16th February 1969 McLaughlin arrived in New York and the following day Miles Davis, his hero, invited him to play on a record. Two years later he launched Mahavishnu Orchestra, the electric jazz-fusion group that went on to release a series of acclaimed albums, containing music with power, volume and complexity far beyond anything else that was being produced in jazz or rock at that time. John McLaughlin went on to bring rock music to its pinnacle - the end point in an evolution from Mississippi blues through Coltrane, Hendrix and The Beatles.

Bathed In Lightning paints a vivid picture of the man Jeff Beck once described as 'the best guitarist alive'. Drawing on many months of meticulous research, this book contains material from dozens of exclusive interviews, as well as a complete discography of McLaughlin's work.
